Hi! I’m Dipti.

Dipti Bramhandkar is a Mumbai-born, New York-based playwright and filmmaker and a member of LAByrinth Theater Company.

Her second film, Joan's Teeth, stars Kathleen Turner (Body Heat, Romancing the Stone) in a biting, funny short about memory and resistance inside a senior care facility. It is on the 2026 festival circuit, where it has won Audience Choice, Best Short, and three Best Performance awards. Her first film, The Choice, was selected for numerous festivals.

In 2024, her site-specific immersive production Conjuring the King, an Elvis fan club experience about obsession and longing, premiered with Juggerknot Theatre Company in Miami and won the Silver Palm Award for Outstanding Original Immersive Experience.

She was awarded The Farm Theater's 2023-24 College Collaboration Project Fellowship, developing Soft Launch (Centre College) and The Ruminants (Austin Peay State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Shenandoah University, and The New School). Keanu Reeves cookies and a talking rabbit, respectively, were involved.

Her play Is There Even Porn in India?, was workshopped in London with director Tim Supple (Young Vic) and dramaturg Jack Bradley. It was presented in New York with Sarita Choudhury, Kevin Corrigan, and Ajay Naidu, and most recently received staged readings at the Cape Cod Theatre Project in 2026, directed by Aneesha Kudtarkar. Islands of Contentment was produced by Hypokrit Productions and The Tank with Daphne Rubin-Vega, Danny Pudi, Laura Gómez, Kalki Koechlin, and Suraj Sharma. Her work has been featured in LAByrinth's Barn Series four times.

As playwright-in-residence at Guild Hall, she was commissioned to write A Land Without Weather, drawn from community interviews about living through the pandemic. Her audio series Quarantheater was featured on WNYC, and her audio plays Kishori's Canteen and Learning to Swim are on Audible. Her solo show American Rookie, a sold-out, extended run at Luna Stage, keeps getting invited back, most recently to Choate Rosemary Hall.

Her first play, The Accident, won Best Drama at the Frigid Festival. She holds a B.A. from Cornell University and an M.A. from Cambridge University, both in English literature.

Dipti is neither a cardiologist nor a classical piano virtuoso, despite her best efforts. A journal with a purple lock, a gift at age nine, put her on this path instead.
